Uber X Ticwatch: Uber’s First Hackathon in China
Since API is officially announced to be fully open to all developers in Chinese market on September 25, 2015, Internet unicorn Uber hosted its first Hackathon in Beijing, themed as ImprovingCities with the Uber API, jointly with partners including Mobvoi Ticwatch, SenseTime and Leancloud. It encouraged all developers to create based on the great and open technologies and create new travel solutions in the future.
Functions such as estimating price and calling a car can be achieved by one click. Engineers from Uber headquarter attended the event in person to answer questions and provide technical support.
Uber’s First Hackathon in China
Mobvoi is a global leading artificial intelligence technology company. Its Ticwear, Chinese smartwatch operation system, supports creative interaction methods such as voice interaction, gestures and Tickle (side touch). During the event, Mobvoi’s embedded smartwatch operation system technology and APIs was open to all the participants, including voice search, voice control and gesture control. Meanwhile, Ticwatch provided support to all on site developers.

- Besides, Mobvoi special awards are set for the developer teams using Ticwatch technology
This event had 20 participating groups, with five groups among them using Ticwatch to conduct development
1st Prize winner: Zhu Ruihe Team
The winner of this Hackathon is the “Stranger” app, developed by Zhu Ruihe Team. “Stranger” makes your fragmented time in an Uber into a more efficient use of social interaction. With the help of Uber and Journey Mode API, Mobvoi semantic analysis API, and Baidu Maps positioning and geographic location decoded API, Stranger allows you to use Ticwatch to call a taxi with just one button. Needing only a flick of the wrist, you’ll never again have to take off your gloves on the cold streets of Beijing. Moreover, after calling a taxi, it will allow you to communicate online with others proceeding from the same location at about the same time. Whilst in an Uber, you will be making new friends the whole time, improving your own social skills and no longer staring blankly or swiping through your friend roll in boredom. They have also therefore earned a 10,000 RMB prize and thousands of Uber credits.
Tic Health, safe launch
One group of developers also developed a way to use Ticwatch to control and constantly monitor heart rate. When you’ve had a drink, the watch can detect issues with your heart, and help you use Uber to call a car. If you’re driving a car and exceed four hours on the road, or are completely exhausted, the watch can in the same way monitor your heartrate and remind you when you need a rest; it can even put on some suitable music. This demo can use the heart rate data gathered by Ticwatch, using an EmoKit algorithm to give a “drunk or not” or “exhausted or not” result. If fatigued, the demo can broadcast intense music, if drunk, the demo can return the result to Uber.
Wristwatch x music, making the wait for a car more interesting
One group from Beijing University created the demo “Trip.FM”, which allows users to broadcast music and read important news whilst riding in a car, allowing users to make full use of their fragmented time as a passenger. Through a pre-set alarm clock, it can automatically book a car the next morning: when your alarm clock time comes, you can have a driver give you a call, letting you awake with a clear head. At this time, your watch can automatically open a radio station, and you can also use the watch to switch to a favourite programme - a Guo Degang sketch, for example. The broadcast will end when you receive another call from your driver, waiting for you downstairs.
To make the complicated simple, one key calls
This independent developer obtained the Mobvoi special prize, taking 5 Ticwatch smartwatches. His demo can make Watch Face into three circular section areas, which the user can touch to separately call a car to return home, call a car to go to their company, and use speech to call a car. This demo combines the merits of Ticwatch and Uber, taking a step towards the implementation of the “one key call” idea.
CreaTic Platform and incentive plan
China Uber said that concealed behind the succinct Uber brand there is complicated and enormous technology support. These technology infrastructures transform like atoms, and are an indispensable part of the pinnacle of user experience. Mobvoi CTO Xin Lei added that one model has the enormous support of an inseparable and numerous groups of developers. Mobvoi prioritize every developer, pushing forward China’s first smartwatch development platform CreaTic and plentiful incentive plans, promoting the development of intelligent wearable equipment alongside developers.
Mobvoi Ticwatch: the newest platform for smartwatch products. Uber: the newest platform for smart travel products. This cross-platform collaboration will collide to produce sparks and opportunities. From ideas to coding, from coding to the demo, Mobvoi allows more creativity to reach the floor, letting ideas become reality.
